Preparations for the November inauguration
"Goodness always tends to communicate itself. Every authentic experience of truth and beauty seeks for itself its expansion, and every person who lives a profound liberation acquires greater sensitivity before the needs of others. When communicated, goodness takes root and grows." (EG 9)
As one of the activities that ended the academic year 2015-2016, and which was still not focused on in the website, it must be remembered that the establishment of the Governing Council of Higher Education of Evangelii Gaudium Center (EGC) in mid-June, included formation, study and research workshops functioning within the perspective of the "new phase of evangelization" to which the Church is called today. The new organisation wanted to make it explicit even in the title referring to the Apostolic Exhortation in 2013 of Pope Francis, known as "Magna Carta," which is the renewal of the Church in general and of its social, pastoral and evangelizing inspiration in particular.
Constituted in Sophia University Institute (SUI) of Loppiano, the EGC was born with the mission to promote and sustain the formation, study and research in the fields of Ecclesiology, Pastoral Theology and Missions, Spiritual Theology and the Theology of Charisms in the life of a Church called today to go all out to perform its missionary vocation. This is in tune with the training project and SUI’s academic method, with careful attention to the richness of the different socio-cultural and ecclesial contexts.
There will be peculiar objectives of the EGC in this connection, in promoting and sustaining projects and activities on training and research along the pattern laid down by the teachings of Vatican Council II, making use of the inspirations and experiences of ecclesial life and evangelization inspired by the charism of unity in communion with the other charisms within the Church, and in the perspective of ecumenical, interreligious and intercultural dialogue.
The Center offers itself as a place of thought. It promotes congresses, symposiums, seminars, permanent formation and specialization courses, scientific meetings, and conferences. In collaboration with the departments, research areas and professorships of IUS, the Center either favors the exchange and synergy with academic, theological and cultural institutions or promotes and sustains the publication of appropriate tools of formation, studies and qualified research results achieved from them. Appointed by the Governing Council were Prof. Fr. Alessandro Clemenzia, Academic Coordinator, Fr. Emilio Rocchi, Secretary and Bishop of Aquila, and Mons. Pino Petrocchi, President of the Scientific Council.
Right from the start, the City of Loppiano has been involved in preparing for the inauguration of the new Center, scheduled for Friday, November 11, 2016. Civil and Church authorities will participate in this event which will be held in the Aula Magna of Sophia. The Inaugural Address will be delivered by Sister Tiziana Merletti of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, and Professor of Canon Law and Leadership Formation at the Claretianum of Rome.
